Around eleven the flat goes silent. You put the lamp off, and the other side of the bed is exactly as empty as it was last night. So you reach for your phone instead, scroll until your eyes ache, and wonder why mornings feel the way they do. You'd get a dog — but the landlord said no, or the hours are too long, or £2,000 a year isn't happening right now.
Without it, you may notice:
❌ A bed that feels too big and too quiet at exactly the wrong hour
❌ Reaching for your phone because there's nothing else to reach for
❌ A drawer of small plushies that all turned up disappointingly tiny
❌ Shoulder and neck ache from side-sleeping with nothing to hold
❌ Wanting a dog you're not allowed, can't afford, or can't be around
❌ A rented room that never quite manages to feel like yours
