You plug in the lamp. Now the phone charger has to wait. Now the fan's unplugged to make room for the laptop. By the time you're ready for bed, something's dead, something's tangled, and the nightstand looks like a cord drawer exploded onto it.
The usual fixes don't really fix it. A bare power strip works, but it's ugly enough that you end up hiding it. Buying more chargers just means more cords fighting for the same six inches of nightstand. And none of it gives you an actual light to fall asleep by.
