You thought about it. You didn't want to hand over another gift card. So you bought the frame, or the candle, or the thing off the gift guide that eleven other people also bought — and you watched them say thank you in that polite, flat way that tells you it didn't land.
Because a photo frame is silent, and it goes invisible by the second week. A Bluetooth speaker is a Bluetooth speaker — they could have bought it themselves, and it says nothing about the two of you. And those custom "music plaques" everyone advertises? Read the fine print. Most of them are just a printed code on a sheet of acrylic. They don't play anything. You have to unlock your phone, open an app, scan the code and pray you still have a subscription — every single time you want to hear it. People give those as gifts, the recipient tries it in front of everyone, and it doesn't work.
The alternative is a real turntable: a few hundred dollars, a shelf you don't have, and a record collection you'd have to start from scratch.
So most people give up and give something forgettable. Another occasion where nobody reacted. Another sixty dollars spent on something that's now in a cupboard.
This one plays out loud, from your photo, with their song — the second they touch it.
